The quotes heard round the world:
"Chris von Sneidern is a major talent, and good news to pop fans. His particular approach conjures up sweet thoughts of Pete Ham (Badfinger), Big Star and their even more obscure relatives Tommy Hoehn and Van Duren, seasoned with just the right dash of Marshall Crenshaw.
The end product is uniquely CVS." - Yellow Pills
"Demo tape of the week!"- San Francisco Bay Guardian
With these prophetic words, a fresh new face, a pair of skinny legs, and a knock out collection of songs herald the arrival of a new pop legend - Chris von Sneidern. A year ago, he was known only to patrons of San Francisco pubs. Today there's hardly a person who doesn't know his name, and this fame is spreading quickly around the world.
Said one British visitor to America: "Only a hermit could be unaware of Chris von Sneidern, and he'd have to be beyond range of television, newspapers, radio, records and rioting fans." Said another, "He's the biggest, hottest property in the history of American show business."
His smashing first CD for the prodigal Heyday Records label is anticipated to ship platinum this September. Industry observers expect it will be topping the charts all over the world this fall. For not only does the winsome 27 year old perform and produce his hit songs in his very own studio, but he also writes them, a true phenomena in this mad pop world where one month an artist tops the charts and the next he is forgotten.
Chris (or CVS as those in the know call him) is a native of working class Syracuse, N.Y. (home also to Bobcat Goldthwait and seminal popsters The Flashcubes).
CVS (6'1", 150 lbs, brown hair and eyes) plays and sings a powerhouse music filled with zest and uninhibited good humor that make listening a sensation filled joy. It isn't rhythm and blues. It's not exactly rock 'n roll. It's his own special sound, or as CVS himself modestly put it, "My music is just-well, my music."
But whatever it is, CVS' robust, jingle-jangly sound has stimulated a reaction Americans themselves describe as vonSneidernmania.
The tracks on this single are merely a tease off the 16 pop gems to be found on his soon to be released debut album. It is a must for every pop fan or just anyone who appreciates good music.
Or as Chris so eloquently put it: "Remember, music is for everyone."
